Evaluation of pleural effusion cases with Videothoracoscopy: Analyses of 129 patients

INTRODUCTION: In this study we aimed to evaluate the diagnostic value of the videothoracoscopy in patient with pleural effusion.
METHODS: Onehundred-twentynine patients were admitted to Konya Numune Hospital thoracic and cardiovascular surgery department with the diagnosis of pleural effusion, between 2004-2009. All of them underwent VATS. Ninety-two patients were male, 37 were female. The mean age was 55.7 with a range of 18 to 81 years the procedure was performed under general anesthesia and with single lung ventilation
RESULTS: Onehundred and one patients were diagnosed to have a bening disease, and 25 of them were diagnosed to have malignant disease and 3 had no pathology at all. The diagnostic value of procedure was 98.2%. Patients with malignant disease underwent pleurodesis. No complication occured in our cases.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: VATS is an effective procedure in diagnosis and palliative treatment of pleural effusions.

Plevral Effüzyonlarda Videotorakoskopi 129 Olgunun Değerlendirilmesi

GİRİŞ ve AMAÇ: Bu çalışmada plevral effüzyonda videotorakoskopinin tanı ve tedavideki değerinin araştırılması amaçlandı.
YÖNTEM ve GEREÇLER: Konya Numune Hastanesi gö¤üs kalp damar cerrahisi merkezinde 2004-2009 yılları arasında 129 hastaya plevral efüzyon tanısıyla video yardımlı torakoskopik cerrahi (VATS) uygulaması yapıldı.Olguların 92(%71.31) tanesi erkek, 37(%28.68) tanesi kadındı.Yaş aralılğı 21 ile 81 idi, ortalama yaş 55.7 bulundu. Tüm hastalarda genel anestezi ile tek akciğer ventilasyon tekniği uygulandı.
BULGULAR: Olguların 101(%78.29) tanesine benign, 25(%19.37) tanesine ise malign hastalık teşhisi konuldu.Tanısal başarı oranı %98.2 olarak saptandı.Malign effüzyonlu hastalarda plörodeziz uygulandı. Perioperatif dönemde komplikasyon gelişmedi.
TARTIŞMA ve SONUÇ: Plevral effüzyonların tanı ve tedavisinde VATS ın değerli bir yöntem olduğu kanısındayız.
