INTRODUCTION: In this study, we evaluated our first 214 laparoscoic Nissen Fundoplication procedures. We aimed to find how the increasing experience influences operation time, intraoperative and postoperative complications and results.
METHODS: Patients were divided into 2 groups. First 100 cases constituted group 1 while following 114 cases constituted group 2. Patients’ demographic data, operative procedure, postoperative complications, disphagia and lenght of hospital stay were evaluated. X2 and Students t tests were used for statistical analysis. Statistical significance was set up as p<0.05.
RESULTS: Two groups were similar with regard to demographic data. Operation time, conversion to open procedure, peri and postoperative complications and disphagia were significantly lower in Group 2.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: The experience in laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication increases significantly the efficacy of the procedure.
